The reliable sequence
Wash. Dry completely. Position above the nostril flare. Press the ends. Remove with warm water.
Do not cut, reuse, or compensate for poor placement with extra tape unless the manufacturer explicitly permits it.
Choose by need
Match size before changing strength
These exact 30-count Original listings separate size from material. Use the manufacturer's sizing guidance and the package label; Large is a fit choice, not an Extra Strength substitute.

Application, step by step
The Breathe Right FAQ generally points Small/Medium toward children or smaller faces and Large toward adults. Treat that as manufacturer guidance, not anatomy-based certainty: package guidance and actual seating control the choice, and Large changes fit rather than strength.
- Wash the nose: remove oil, moisturizer, makeup, and sweat with a mild cleanser.
- Dry completely: adhesive performs poorly on damp skin. Wait after showering if the skin is still warm or moist.
- Find the flare: place the strip across the lower bridge, just above where each nostril begins to flare—not high between the eyes.
- Center before pressing: align the middle first, then smooth each side outward.
- Press the ends: hold briefly so the adhesive makes even contact. Avoid repeated lifting and repositioning.
Why strips peel off overnight
Surface problems
- Skin oil, moisturizer, or sweat
- Applying before skin is fully dry
- Facial hair under the adhesive
- Repeated repositioning
Fit problems
- Strip placed too high or low
- Incorrect size for the nose
- Ends sitting over a deep skin crease
- Too much tension for the adhesive/material
Remove it slowly
Breathe Right advises removing a strip gently with warm water or in the shower. Let water loosen the adhesive, lift one end, and peel slowly back across the skin rather than pulling upward. Do not rip it off dry.
Skin reactions and when to stop
Manufacturer guidance lists possible redness, irritation, pain, peeling, bleeding, rash, itching, and swelling. Stop using the strip when a reaction develops. Do not place another strip over broken, sunburned, or already irritated skin.
The Breathe Right FAQ says the product packaging contains natural rubber latex and advises people with latex allergy not to use the strips. Clear variants may be easier to remove and designed with sensitive skin in mind, but no adhesive format is reaction-proof.
Rules worth keeping visible
- Single use only.
- Do not wear for longer than the manufacturer’s labeled limit; Breathe Right says no more than 12 hours.
- Do not cut the strip; cutting can damage its spring structure.
- Stop for persistent pain, bleeding, rash, itching, or swelling.
- Switch formats rather than repeatedly traumatizing the skin.
