Original or Extra Strength?
This is primarily a lift decision. Extra Strength Tan adds a band and is described by Breathe Right as 50% stronger than Original Tan. Extra Strength Clear is likewise described as 50% stronger than Original Clear.
Decision two
Tan or Clear?
This is primarily a material/removal decision. The manufacturer describes Clear as hypoallergenic, non-porous, subtler in appearance, and easier to remove.
What “50% stronger” does not mean
The claim describes strip strength, not clinical performance. It does not mean 50% more nasal airflow, 50% less snoring, or 50% better sleep. Published studies generally evaluate nasal strips as a category or a specific tested strip—not every retail variant against every other variant.
Our decision rule
- New to strips: start with Original unless you already know you prefer stronger lift.
- Sensitive or dry skin: favor Clear material, then choose Original or Extra Strength based on lift.
- Original helps but not enough: trial Extra Strength while watching for skin discomfort.
- Adhesive is the problem: stop changing strip strength and compare an internal dilator.
- Nasal breathing is already clear: a different variant is unlikely to address the real limitation.
