How Breathe Right strips work
Flexible bands sit across the outside of the nose. Once applied above the flare of the nostrils, their spring-like tension lifts the sidewalls outward. This can reduce resistance at the nasal valve without medication or an object inside the nose.
That mechanism is anatomically limited. It does not advance the lower jaw, reposition the tongue, stiffen the soft palate, or provide positive airway pressure.
Does Breathe Right help snoring?
Sometimes, in a narrower group than the advertising category suggests. In a small randomized trial involving twelve non-obese people with chronic rhinitis and snoring but no sleep apnea, the active strip reduced snore frequency compared with placebo. It did not improve snoring loudness, sleep quality, arousal index, or apnea-hypopnea index.
Broader systematic reviews found that nasal dilators improve nasal breathing measures but do not produce meaningful improvement in obstructive sleep apnea outcomes overall. The most accurate conclusion is therefore conditional: better nasal airflow may reduce snoring when nasal resistance is an important contributor, but it will not resolve every snoring mechanism.

The manufacturer warns that application-site redness, irritation, pain, peeling, bleeding, rash, itching, or swelling can occur. Stop use if a reaction develops. Its FAQ also says the outer packaging contains natural rubber latex and advises people with latex allergy not to use the strips.
Remove the strip gently with warm water or in the shower rather than pulling it quickly from dry skin. Clear variants are specifically positioned as easier to remove, but “hypoallergenic” does not mean a reaction is impossible.
Who should consider it—and who should move on
A reasonable trial
- Nasal congestion accompanies the snoring.
- Supporting the side of the nose improves awake nasal breathing.
- You want a drug-free external option.
- You can monitor skin response.
Probably not the answer
- Nasal breathing already feels clear.
- The snoring is accompanied by gasping or breathing pauses.
- Adhesives repeatedly cause a reaction.
- You are using it to avoid a recommended sleep evaluation.
Decision rule
Breathe Right is a defensible experiment when nasal resistance is plausible because the mechanism is simple and reversible. Choose Original Tan or Clear based on material, fit, and skin considerations; consider Extra Strength only when the labeled strength tier is the decision you want to test. The right success criterion is “nasal breathing felt easier,” not “this proved the snoring was harmless.”
